Tech Corner: HWGI Rule on Contingency Plan Requirements & Labeling

Among the many changes implemented in EPAs Hazardous Waste Generator Improvement (HWGI) rule we’d like to focus on Contingency Plan & Labeling Requirements. Contingency Plan One very notable aspect in which the HWGI rule has become more stringent is in the contingency plan requirements for Large Quantity Generators (LQGs).  Prior to the HWGI rule the issue became apparent that LQGs submitted lengthy contingency plans to local emergency responders and at the moment of an emergency response event, the responders would have to search entire plans to find the most important information.  Although LQGs are already required to submit contingency plans, New LQGs now have to include a Quick Reference Guide (described as an Executive Summary in the proposed rule) that contains information most critical for immediate response to an event.  Already existing LQGs are required to include a Quick Reference Guide when they otherwise update their contingency plan.  The goal behind the new r

In summary, the Plan will: Reduce environmental impacts Promote environmental stewardship Increase company profitability Please contact us today for more information on dev

Regulatory Updates: "OSHA LOG" update!

Effective January 01, 2017, OSHA’s new rule Improve Tracking of Workplace Injuries and Illness has been finalized to amend the current Recording and Reporting Occupation Injuries and Illness regulation.  The following points are notable highlights: 1.       Certain employers will be required to electronically submit injury and illness data that they are already required to record on their onsite OSHA Injury and Illness forms under existing regulations. 2.       Data will be publicly available for examination by researchers to detect trends and identify workplace safety hazards before they become widespread. 3.       Employers are encouraged to increase injury and illness prevention efforts and workers are encouraged to report work related injuries and illnesses without the fear of employer retaliation. 4.       OSHA’s existing recordkeeping regulation will clarify the rights of employees and their representatives to access public injury and illness records under the amendment
